Improve eWaste Recycling
The term eWaste, has come to define the global disposal of consumer and commercial electronics. Examples of eWaste range from mobile phones to PC motherboards to commercial refrigerators.
The Green Grid (TGG) created its latest metric in hopes to assist the IT community in using the best practices for equipment disposal. The management of proper eWaste is challenging and poses a threat to the environment around. So how does it work?
Calculating Percentage of eWaste
TGG new eWaste metric will determine the percentage of waste generated by a facility depending on unit weight (IT equipment) which is properly disposed of by responsible entities. The Electronic Disposal Efficiency (EDE) metric will also examine how IT equipment is reused, either partially or impartially and examine weather or not components were properly recycled.
TGG hopes that by introducing an eWaste metric organizations will have an easier time following proper guidelines when it comes to cycling out and recycling old IT equipment. Companies need to understand where eWaste is going and how it is getting recycled. TGG also hopes that in time, organizations will measure themselves using this specific metric and improve their practices for eWaste recycling.
