IT Convergence the Key to Success
April 25, 2013Using Data Security To Keep Business Information Safe
April 29, 2013Technology changes the way we live and work. Some of our most recent achievements can be utilized today.
Big Data
The more comments we leave on Facebook – the more oppurtunity it creates for analysts. To identify trends and characteristics, analysts must arm themselves with very powerful tools they can use to process huge amounts of data.
When we can use it: in 2-5 years.
Energy transfer with no wires
Researchers from the Toyohashi University of Technology have demonstrated wireless power can be transmissed through barriers of 10 cm thick. At the 2012 Wireless Technology Park exhibition in Japan, the total amount of power transmitted reached 50-60 watts – enough to glow an ordinary light bulb or power the majority of mobile gadgets.
They plan to use this technology to create special highways that will be able to recharge electric vehicles.
When we can use it: in 2-5 years.
Mobile NFC-payments
Non-contact payments are now used throughout the world, but the technology of wireless short-range high-frequency communications (NFC) won’t be mass distributed.
Analysts of Forrester Research predict that the penetration of mobile NFC-devices to the U.S. market will have reached 25% by 2016.
When we can use it: in 5-10 years.
Developers are now occupied with three-dimensional printing. In fact, why not? Wouldn’t it be interesting to print a toy for a child, or a couple of extra plates for your guests?
Engineers from the University of Southern California have developed a process of three-dimensional printing called contour crafting, which is able to build a solid two-storey house in just 20 hours.
When we can use it: in 5-10 years.
Data processing in natural language
The simplest version of this technology is speech recognition and has already been developed for iOS and Android phones. Now it’s time to develop the intellectual component of voice data processing; IBM is working on several similar technologies.
When we can use it: in 5-10 years.
Machine simultaneous translation
Google Translate translates poorly today. Such a translation is not suitable for official documents, but it comes in handy when trying to decipher Chinese or Japanese characters; machine translation will be of better quality very soon.
When we can use it: in 5-10 years.
Holographic displays
Holographic displays allow you to create three-dimensional images that can be viewed from all sides at any angle and, of course, without the help of any glasses. There are a lot of possible ways to apply this technology, beginning with games and innovative 3D-interfaces and scientific research.
When we can use it: in more than 10 years.
Interactive Internet-TV is beginning to take shake. All necessary conditions have been created to do this: a high-speed Internet connection, trade networks and devices to broadcast online channels directly to your TV.
When we can use it: now.
Internet for things
What if tomorrow we are able to connect various devices to the global network? Imagine being able to diagnose your car without visiting a service station.
When we can use it: in more than 10 years.
Gaming elements in business
Analysts of Gartner predict that every other organization will have used gamification techniques by 2015.
Involving employees in gameplay is the easiest way to improve job performance. Gaming services also encourage consumers to buy goods and retail products.
When we can use it: in 5-10 years.
