Big Data
The more comments we leave on Facebook – the more oppurtunity it creates for analysts. To identify trends and characteristics, analysts must arm themselves with very powerful tools they can use to process huge amounts of data.

Energy transfer with no wires
Researchers from the Toyohashi University of Technology have demonstrated wireless power can be transmissed through barriers of 10 cm thick. At the 2012 Wireless Technology Park exhibition in Japan, the total amount of power transmitted reached 50-60 watts – enough to glow an ordinary light bulb or power the majority of mobile gadgets.
They plan to use this technology to create special highways that will be able to recharge electric vehicles.

Mobile NFC-payments
Non-contact payments are now used throughout the world, but the technology of wireless short-range high-frequency communications (NFC) won’t be mass distributed.
Analysts of Forrester Research predict that the penetration of mobile NFC-devices to the U.S. market will have reached 25% by 2016.

Three-dimensional printing
Developers are now occupied with three-dimensional printing. In fact, why not? Wouldn’t it be interesting to print a toy for a child, or a couple of extra plates for your guests?
Engineers from the University of Southern California have developed a process of three-dimensional printing called contour crafting, which is able to build a solid two-storey house in just 20 hours.

The simplest version of this technology is speech recognition and has already been developed for iOS and Android phones. Now it’s time to develop the intellectual component of voice data processing; IBM is working on several similar technologies.
